City of Invented Languages?
In an earlier hub -
http://hubpages.com/hub/Land-of-Invented-Languages
- I reviewed Arika Okrent's book In the Land of Invented Languages.
I have recently been informed that the author will appear in New York at December 15th, at 2:30 – 5:00 p.m., at a symposium arranged by the Universal Esperanto Association (perhaps in some kind of collaboration with the United Nations).
The place will be The Church Center, 777 United Nations Plaza, New York, NY 10017.
The year will be this one, 2009, perhaps I should say as the hubs are not visibly dated.
The occasion will be the 150th birthday of Esperanto's initiator, LL Zamenhof (who won't be present, as he died in April 1917).

Of the announced speakers I think I have personally met only Humphrey Tonkin, who has been UEA:s president a couple of times and uses to visit every Universal Congress of Esperanto.
Including the one in Havana in 1990, where he as a US citizen wasn't supposed to go; but he is a British citizen as well, so he managed to.
Hope he will be able to do so next year too, when that congress will be in Havana again.
In spite of the blockade.
That's one wall too many.
As well as the barbed wire between USA and Mexico.
So to travesty an earlier president of the USA:
If you want some change, Mr. Obama, tear down those walls!
