A Forgotten Human Right
It is written in the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights,
http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr/index.shtml :
Article 13.
(1) Everyone has the right to freedom of movement and residence within the borders of each state.
(2) Everyone has the right to leave any country, including his own, and to return to his country.
Please note:
1. These human rights are not valid because they are included in the declaration; they are included in the declaration because they are valid. They are founded not on law, but on the right that is above all laws; so even if every single one of the United Nations' member states should violate one human right or another (and most of them do), it will still remain valid.
2. This human right does not belong to "everyone who has a visa", not even to "everyone who has a passport" or "everyone who can identify himself", but to "everyone", period.
3. If everyone "has the right to leave any country, including his own," it follows the he or she also has the right to enter the country at the other side of the border; elseway, this right could not be exercised.
4. From this follows that no crossing of a national border is illegal. If the law says it is, the law is lying.
5. From this follows that any attempt to stop someone from crossing a national border is a crime.
So, misters kings and presidents and prime ministers:
Tear down all walls!
The one in Berlin fell twenty years ago.
The one between USA and Mexico stays.
So does the one between Spain and Morocco in Northern Africa.
So does the one between Israel and the rest of Palestina.
So do all the external borders of the so called European Union (which means the weakening of the internal borders is not quite as valuable as Brussels wants us to believe).
So do many others.
It's time for them to go.
They are all illegal.
They should never have been built.
